As a growing business with increased deliveries, Nestlé UK (and Ireland) has changed its running gear specification on new trailer axles over to SAF axles for the foreseeable future. Seventeen new trailers have been ordered from trailer builders with SAF axles fitted since December and another batch is due to be placed in a few months time.

Graham Lyon, Nestlé UK LGV Fleet Manager commented “We had been having problems with another axle manufacturer for many years, especially after periods of none-use with the trailers, we were finding the brake eroding over time and our maintenance costs increasing which we wanted to avoid”.“ We visited the UK distributors for SAF, IMS to discuss ways of helping us with our problem. We were impressed not only with their knowledge and first class service, but by the quality of the SAF product range to give us what we wanted going forward, for example weight savings, low running costs, savings on maintenance and an excellent warranty”.

Chris Simblet from IMS replied “Nestlé came to us with a number of technical issues to resolve and also looked to us to provide a suitable solution at a time when axles were in short supply. We recommended the SAF Intra series because it was the right axle for the application Nestlé intended. SAF’s proven lower running costs than their competitors finally convinced Nestlé to settle on SAF. The SAF product is proving itself at Nestlé and our high service levels are being warmly received.”
